Amber’s Amblings and Ambitions

Reflection

It’s you that I see every morning.
I look in the mirror and there you are.
Your breath sends me a far.
Your smile is missing teeth.

I run to the grocery store.
There you are with a cart full of food
up to the room and about to overflow.
Suddenly, I don’t feel good.

I return home.
You’ve beaten me there.
I’m disappointed yet again
and wonder, will this ever end?

For my weeks start and end with you.
You are the first person I see.
You are the last one I see.
I can never be freed from you.

Oh turn back the clock
to when you were pleasing to me
when your breath smelled of mint
and your smile was as pretty as could be.

Take me back to when you were slim.
When you exercised
and said goodbye to junk
instead of smelling like funk.

Return to moments of youth
when you appreciated beauty with your hair
adorned in curls
and you sparkled with jewels.

Erase the losers in your life
Fast forward sad times
Bury your strife
Embrace a happier life.

 Don’t let tomorrow repeat yesterday.
Life is short and you’ve wasted too much.
Toss away the bottles of regret.
Dress yourself in hope for a brighter day.

Return to your box of wishes
plan for them to be reality.
So, the next time that you look in the mirror
you will see an elegant dish.

No more running away from your own reflection
nor cringe as you can see what you’ve become
for you will witness a portrait of determination
each and everyday.

Step forward to your newfound future.
Don’t hesitate.
For you’ve settled for less than who you are
and believed the wrong fate.
